Exploring Magog on Foot

The Versō hotel, which is situated on the shoreline of Lake Memphremagog, is the perfect place to relax and to use as a jumping off point to explore the surrounding area. Many of the region’s attractions are not far from the hotel, so grab your walking shoes and check out our recommendations for what there is to see and do—all within easy walking distance!

Lake Memphremagog, beach, park | 0 km

Yep! All you need to do is step outside the hotel, right onto the recreational trail that runs along the banks of Lake Memphremagog. Walk (or pedal!) from one end to the other and take in the views of this lovely stretch of water…

Wander over to the beach, take a dip in the lake, or enjoy a lunch at one of the picnic tables. At the Merry Point Park (Parc de la Baie-de Magog), there’s a playground where you can admire the scenery while keeping an eye on the kids as they have fun on the outdoor equipment.

Maybe you’ve booked a cruise with Escapades Memphrémagog? The departure jetty is a stone’s throw from the hotel.

The Kóz bistro, terrace, LeCornet | 0 km

On a sunny day, how about relaxing on a terrace, sipping a cocktail and sharing some dishes of food with your favourite people? Well then, look no further than the hotel itself! The terrace at Kóz bistro offers wonderful views of Lake Memphremagog, and its Mediterranean-themed menu can make you imagine you’re vacationing in some far-off land rather than in the Eastern Townships!

Fancy a refreshing ice cream after a day at the park or on the beach? Our ice cream counter, LeCornet, is now open for the summer (weather permitting, from noon to 10 p.m.) You’ll find a great selection of treats… including, no doubt, one of your favourites! Maybe a vanilla soft ice? Or a decadent ice cream flavoured with brownies, chocolate or fruit!

Maison Merry | 850 metres

History buffs will enjoy wandering around this one-time private home dating back to 1821. Now restored, the Merry House has been turned into a city museum. The oldest building in downtown Magog, it documents the lives of local families and industries from the early days of the city’s founding, through thematic exhibitions and activities.

Musée d’art naïf, Le Vieux Clocher | 900 metres

Culture vultures will find plenty to interest them in Magog. A few minutes’ walk from Versō, you’ll find the Musée international d’art naïf, an art gallery filled with naïve art from around the globe. The colourful images on display are often simple but heart-warming—guaranteed to make you smile! Admission is free.

Laughter is on the agenda at Le Vieux Clocher. This church-turned-theatre offers a great line-up of popular stand-up comics and other entertainers who perform here almost every evening. After a show, it’s very pleasant to take your time to absorb the sights and sounds of downtown Magog as you stroll back towards Versō.

Rue Principale and its cute boutiques | 1 km

How about some retail therapy? Head for rue Principale, Magog’s Main Street. It’s lined with specialist boutiques selling everything from beachwear to home decor to games, namely. Plan on spending a least a couple of hours window shopping or better still, making a few purchases!

If you’re on the lookout for fashionable, one-of-a-kind clothing, we suggest you drop in to Le WeekEnd Collections or Boutique Ville et Campagne. For “pre-owned” clothes, try La Suite 100 % Love, an eco-friendly store. Beau et Fou has a wide range of unique, decorative accessories for the home, many of them sourced from Asia. It also sells jewelry.

Shopping in Magog is fun with lots of new things to discover—all within easy reach of the Versō hotel. If you’d like travel further afield than your feet will take you, then hop on a bike or take off in your car. There’s so much to see and do in our corner of the world!
